OF WATER AND WILL
Directed by: Tess McCormick
Of Will and Water is about the story of the experimental box crab fishery in Santa Barbara, and the web of drama this fishery initiates. Examines questions of deep-sea exploration, the complexity of finding a balance between food security and ecosystem resilience, and how to respect the ocean while reaching into its depths, challenging the accepted rules of governance and jurisdiction over a realm that conforms to neither.

THE SALT ON OUR SKIN
Co-Director of Photography, Drone Operator: Tess McCormick
The ebb and flow of waves has consistently been a source of energy for ocean communities and cultures. For time immemorial, the rich coastal environment has brought a diversity of people and nature. It has been a place of joy, gathering, and reflection. However, local barriers have deterred or prevented the gathering of many groups in Southern California. The Salt on Our Skin explores parallel connections of several communities on our coast while they own and reclaim their narrative to carve a space across the channel, onshore, or in the deep sea.
